Customer Service above the expected
04/11/12 at 15:21:45

I have made several purchases from Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register and have always been pleased with each piece.  I mounted a piece of Claro Walnut that had several cracks.  The cracks itself did not concern me, just that the cracks were will with wax all the way to the bottom.  This is copy of the email I sent to Steven Potts.

"Steven,
I have attached a picture of the claro walnut vase I am working on.  It had several deep cracks and I do not have a problem with that.  However, the cracks are filled with wax all the way to the bottom.  Do you have any recommendations for dealing with this?

Thanks,
Roger"

I got a reply from Steven last night to call him and discuss the options.  I did so today.  Steven apologized and said that this piece was carck to severe for him to sell.  He suggested I go ahead and finish this piece using a razor to cut the wax from the cracks.  He is also sending me a comparable piece of Buckeye Burl.  That to me is great customer service.

I suggest you give him a try if you are wanting some Australian burl.

Always good to hear of good customer service.  thumbsup

I've had good luck removing wax from hard-to-reach places on a blank with a heat gun and paper towels. (A hair dryer would probably work, too.)

Roger,
If you can get a piece of brown paper sack in the crack use that to lift up the wax after you heat it.  Works really well.  Used it to get wax out of cloth when doing batik.  I know lift is probably not the right word but the one I need to use gets bleeped.

I finally completed work on the piece of buckeye burl that Lee Tree WoodWorks gave me to replace a piece of claro walnut that had cracks in it.

The vase measures 8.5 inches in diameter and stand 9.5 inches tall.

Excellent!  Do be sure to add them to the Favorite Vendors list.  I have found that most wood vendors do a pretty good job of taking care of customers.  They are starting to understand that we talk to one another.
Cool
