Got my package in the mail today. A piece of pecan that barely fit in the box. I can see a vase and a peppermill in the near future for it. It has a lot of figure and color for pecan. Thank you very much, Gordon Pickering. smiley=dankk2.gif

You came to Phoenix and didn't let any one know.  For shame.  We only have about 10 members right in town.

I would love to meet up and share some info, and had actually arranged to trade a hollow form demo for a carved bowl demo, but weve been so busy with family, im not sure we can even find the time for that. Im in town for my nieces graduation (kellis) so we have a lot of family in town from as far as South Dakota. We'll be coming back soon though, and would love to arrange a meet up with the local turners

Received my box from a mystery member today.  Postal carrier asked me if we were shipping rocks back and forth...  Grin

Opened it to find an astonishing assortment of blanks - I see pens, letter openers, stoppers, candlesticks, and perhaps a few pepper mills in here.  Looks like some really cool stuff!  Not too sure how it all fit in the box!  Cheesy

Unfortunately the only clue as to where it came from was the postage - postmarked Altus, OK.  So big thanks to whoever sent it! smiley=dankk2.gif

Edit:  Just had a Ah-Ha! moment and went and looked at the Member Map... I'm guessing my box came from Zack Morgan...  Thanks!

Ran into a little snafu getting my box of wood out, but I should get it in the mail by Tuesday.  Wood is all cut and I just need to go get a box from the post office.  So if Breck W. out in Gulfport, MS is wondering why he hasn't received anything yet, this is why.  It's coming, so keep anticipating!

Got my box from Kevin Stanbary. A huge piece of box elder, with some Russian Olive and a bunch of pen blanks. I see a side grain short squatty hollow form in my future.

Thanks Kevin.

Roughing out that mesquite bowl that Gary Webb sent might not be the most fun I ever had but sure is close. It is almost enough to make me move to the desert.
There is something about hard woods I love and the smell from mesquite is quite nice too.

Save your scraps, they make a great addition to a grill.  Soak them in water for 24 hours and throw some on the coals just before putting on the meat.

My small  scarps I will turn into pen blanks, What is left from that I will use for smoking. One time I found a 1/4 thick steel box. I drilled a bunch of holes in it and it worked great for a smoker. Smoking make anything better.

I received my medium trade box Saturday and I also have a mystery trade partner but I know it also came from Oklahoma by the post mark. Osage, walnut and some smaller oak. To a lot of BBQ pros, soaking wood for a smoker is a no-no. Especially on larger pieces, it causes the wood to smolder and adds more creosote to the smoke. For lathe shavings added to the grill for flavoring a steak, a soak of a few minutes slows down the flash burn without causing too much creosote.

Received my large box today.  Nice piece of black cherry I'm seeing as a natural edge bowl and some red gum Eucalyptus chunks that might become beautiful bottle stoppers or finials.  Thanks Allen!   smiley=dankk2.gif
