What trees grow in your state?

This wood trade got me thinking about what are the dominant trees that grow in your state. Are there trees like walnut that grow wild? In Oregon (my area anyway)fir spruce alder shore pine grow like weeds. Other woods like big leaf maple are not as common but grow. As you move away from the coast different trees. So what grows wild near you?

I'm in Northwest Indiana, which is really a suburb of Chicago.  We have a lot of Osage orange, soft maple, boxelder and oak.  We also have sour cherry trees which get pretty big, around 30" diameter.  The climate is mild enough that we also have bradford pear and other ornamentals that are available from time to time.

OO is one of my favorites, I got the impression it was scarce.
Is sour cherry a cherry tree or just a name.

Cottonwood, box elder, Siberian Elm(Utahans call it Chinese Elm), Russian olive, aspen, Gable oak, Douglas fir, spruces, white pine, red pine, and some maple.

Russian olive and Siberian elm are taking over like weeds. I don't remember as much Russian olive when I was small but now the darn trees are everywhere. I get a lot because people are always removing it from their yards.

Sometimes you can get fruit woods from orchards when they start to turn over the old trees.

The woods behind our house in NJ were mostly oak, beech, and tulip poplar.  And plenty of sumac, though I'm not sure that counts as a tree.  In Texas, I'm not too clear on what the trees are around here.

I'm not *too* far from Joseph, so we see a lot of the same stuff...  I don't know a lot of the trees by sight. Based on what shows up in the firewood ads on Craigslist, there's a lot of maple, locust, maple, some cherry, maple, some russian olive, maple, and the occasional walnut tree that the owner heard was valuable so they'll let you have the wood if you come take it down for them... oh, did I mention maple?

Actually there was some Sycamore advertised not too far from here, was thinking of running out at lunch and seeing if there was any still there...  Roll Eyes

Just near my house there is tons of black cherry (6 30"+ diameter in my back yard) mulberry, osage orange, red oak, box elder, red maple, and tulip poplar. Those and tons more I'm sure. They just took a huge red maple tree down near my shop, it was to big for me to carry any of pieces. Hopefully I can snag a few before they hall it away.

I love the deciduous forests of Kentucky!

In North Texas, you have Pin oak, red oak, white oak, Mesquite, OO, and anything that was planted for shade/looks.
