Welcome Mr. May

I didn't know you were an ex-pat from the land of Salt and temples.

I think Utah breeds a lot of do-it-yourselfers. It seems like everywhere you go, someone buys one item and then everyone takes it apart and reverse engineers it so they can make copies. I've see women do it with clothing and fiber art and some men with furniture and other things.

Oregon is a nice change of pace. Sorry about the back but good to hear you've found a nice place to settle.

Oh and nice work!

Thanks guys, the only reason I even brought up my back is that there is a direct relationship between my back pain and wood turning. When we are having fun our body produces endorphins which is a natural pain reviler. As we get older most of us get those aches and pains, and having fun can be as good as pain killers. Plus it gets the mind thinking. I find myself thinking more clearly and just feeling better when I am at my lathe. So when we are getting older it is important to do something we enjoy.
As a whole I feel a lot better when I am turning and if I never sell a bowl I will never stop just because it is fun and there is a whole lot of free wood that would end up in a fireplace anyway.

When I click the Scott Glass Link, it takes me to the Glen Carrow page. Glen is still also on the front page when I try and access it from there.  If I go to the featured artist link at the top of the page, the most recent featured artist is from 2007.

I would love to know more about you Scott......lol

I had the same problem... refreshed the page when I got there and voila!  Glen was replaced by Scott!  Cool

Congrats Scott!  smiley=beer.gif

On the home page, look for "Featured Member" rather than "Featured Artist".

I think having a reason to greet the world every morning is very important to a long life. As I've gone through my life, I watched as older people grew very old. I notice that the people who have grown old with the most life, freedom, and well being were those that had a reason that they "HAD" to get out of bed early in the morning. Those who didn't have a reason, stayed in bed longer every year until they no longer got out of bed.

Creative activities that require you to think are the best. Excersise is also important but your brain is a muscle like any other and it will actually shrink in size if you don't use it.

I often find that a nice long stint at the lathe, after a rough day at work, does me much better than a few asprin and a drink. I've always said that time spent doing something you love cannot be subtracted from your life.

Scott it's nice to learn a little about you. The Oregon coast is so pretty and I can understand your love of it. I've been up and down the coast a few times and never get tired of it.

Scott, It is wonderful to learn more about you. We live on almost opposite ends of this country and yet we both love to turn. Aint it great! I must admit I think you live in one of the most beautiful parts of this great country. I am a little envious of your wood supply. Best of luck as you get better and better at what you love! smiley=thumbsup.gif
