Thanks for the correction Ed
The 1/2" blade seems right blade for resawing the block..

Will recheck the tension setting Ken..The elektra beckum 315
has no tension setting marks..I was playing with the idea that the bow
had something to do with the tension..

Will post more when or if the lower guide bracket is sorted.
Again thanks for all your help....
I have found there is nothing  worse than buying second hand tools.
This is the second time  have had my fingers burned....lol

If you know how to adjust the equipment, second hand can be a good deal. Sometimes people set them up improperly and dump them thinking they are bad tools. Often a little tweak here and a tweak there, and you're off with something that is near new.

Once you get this saw sorted out, you should be able to repeat it another time, should you come across another.

I'll only buy second hand if I can check the item first. I've been burned both with new and used from on line sources. I'm also one of those that likes to look the seller in the eye, check the horse's teeth, and know what I'm getting before we shake hands.

Good luck Xander, looks like you are well on your way to a fine tuned saw.

I ignore the tension settings on my bandsaw, instead I "pluck" the band until I hear a nice C note.

Ron makes a good point.  The band should make a pleasent tone.  If you don't know what a "c" is or if you are tone deaf, you may want to get some one to help you with this.  Point is, the sound is more reliable than the silly little marks on the saw.

I am not good a hitting notes -- I look for about 1-2 mm deflection laterally with the blade pushing against the side (not under power of course).  (imperial 1/16 to 3/32nd or so)

That should not result in a high note.

It looks like I am getting into this discussion late.  All of the threads are good advice.  I think the saw was set up incorrectly as previously suggested.  I have studied bandsaws for years and read everything I could get my hands on to cure blade drift.  There are two schools of thought, first all blades will have a natural drift and you  set your fence for it.  I do not follow that school.  Blade technology and manufacturing practices should yeild good blades capable of cutting a straight line.  The second school is incorrect saw set up.  One of the best tutorials I have read was from a very old Highland Woodworking article.  In it they described checking your bandsaw for wheel parallelism.  The wheels of your saw need to be working in the same plane.  On the better saws you can adjust the cant of each wheel so that they are parallel to each other.  To check it you may can remove the table and simply use a straight edge to align the four points. Otherwise a c-shaped plywood jig would span the table if you leave it on the saw.  Lastly, check the tires on your saw for irregular wear, it may be as simple as replacing the tires.  Good luck

A C note sounds like this . . . hmmmmm and middle C sounds like . . . HMMMMM

You could always refer back to this post when you are tightening your blade.

The actual pitch will vary depending on the saw and blade size. But you knew that. Wink

Yep!  I just tighten it until it makes a pleasent tone and not a buzz.
