Tool Stand / Holder

I have need to be somewhat mobile with my items other than my lathe (I work in my garage).  For this reason I have made the following tool stand(see photo).  It holds all my tools as well as chucks, jaws, wrenches, etc.  I hang most of the jaws and such on the back side of this stand that is on wheels.  The tape measure is extended 24 inches for size reference.

I may have to make myself one of these.  My tools are out of control, or rather they're in control, but very inconvenient for me.  Could you explain exactly how you keep the tools from falling through the PVC?  Is that what the "bushing" is in the third picture?

How do you post multiple photos on one area?  I don't know how to do this, and had to upload them individually by replying to my own topic post.

I keep the tools from going all the way through by glueing inside the sleeve the bushing in photo #3 above.

I didn't want to "trap" shavings in the sleeves, so I elected to NOT use caps on the bottoms.  I make a heck of a mess, and the last thing I need is something that takes extra time to clean.  As it is, I wear coveralls when I work so that I can peel the dust away before going back in the house (gotta keep my bride happy Kiss).

I use this PVC stuff because it is easily machined (cut / glue / drill) into what I want.  Be aware of the nast glue fumes and do any of that work outside!

One last word on this stand.  Since the tools are point up, be careful when grabbing them.  Take your time.  Grab the tool, lift the tool, then move to the lathe.  If you grab and move, the tool can slip through your grip and then it band aid time shake head.

Real nice, everything is right there where you can see it.

I like the "backstock" space on the cross support under the tool for stuff not used often. What is the bottom of the tray on the top were the centers go? is it hardware cloth that allows dust and shavings to go through or solid that needs vacuuming?

I figured you grabbed the blade of the tool, flipped it into the air over your head and caught it by the handle with the other hand.
I'm seriously thinking of cribbing this idea.  I work in about 40 sq. ft. and stand in the path through the garage from the door to the car.  Being able to roll the tools in front of the lathe when not turning has strong appeal.

Please use whatever info is presented here for your own use.  I wish I could claim credit, however this is my take on another person's design which as I understand is alread the 3rd or 4th iteration of others thoughts... thumbsup

The very top is a shallow tray ~3.5 inches wide that holds some chuck screws, center punches, pencils, etc.  Since these photos I have made a plate to hold the stronghold chuck key, revolving center lock pin and the hex wrench needed to swap the jaws of the chuck.
