Gallery work

Yesterday was my "jury interview" for the gallery. I took several pieces of my work and was invited on the spot to be a part of the new gallery. It will be in downtown Scottsdale, AZ, on 5th ave. It is a very high dollar part of town. The kind of place that money flies into from out of state just to go shopping. We are right next door to a high end custom jewelry shop, and leather shop on the other side of us, with "gallery row" running down the street. Should be a lot of foot traffic.

Their only real critique was that I needed more stuff, and that I shouldn't be afraid to go bigger.

We open the week after Labor day. I am really excited about the possibility of turning some things I have been avoiding because I didn't have an outlet, and the craft fair crowd wouldn't buy.

Great!

I'm in Durango, CO visiting my son. There is a gallery here that has work from about four turners. They have a vase from aspen burl that is about 20" in diameter and about 30" tall. There is also work from a guy that does a lot of segmented work, some from another that is mostly natural edge, and some bottle stoppers and pens.

I showed some photo's I had with me of my stuff to one of the workers. She loved my birdhouses but I don't have anything with me to show the owner. I wish it were closer to home. That 7 hour drive isn't all that fun.
