Those corners get nasty at 1700 rpm. People often ask me if making the natural edge pieces scare me. I just tell them that you have to keep your hands behind the tool rest and you're fine. Sanding it is a good idea to rig up a wand and put a pad behind the sandpaper.  I also like to employ an orbital sander on the outside and a drill with a 2" wheel in the inside. One hand holds the tool while the other rotates the bowl so that you don't make divots.

The gallery will be open later today.  Who is still in this C&T?  Get your pictures posted by the end of the day Sunday.  That is 3 1/2 days left to turn a "Square Bowl".  Also post whether you will pay the extra postage only to Canada as we have one member there that is in, and nobody responded from across the pond.

I'll have see what I have left to try again, my first is spread over the shop.

We'll see how my attempt goes in the morning!  I was gone all day today for a Trent Bosch demo organized by a nearby AAW club, so my only turning time left before the deadline is first thing tomorrow.

Ohmygosh.  I was so focused on making sure I had the minimum size I didn't even notice the maximum, and my board was 9.5" across so I only sliced off enough to allow it to fit on my lathe, giving it about a 12" diagonal and about 8.5" sides.  No time to do another one today so here's the snapshot I have for you guys!

My board was just over an inch thick, so I went for a sushi platter look.  The bottom has a small ring-shaped foot.

That works.  Guy's is over size too.  I'm headed out to the garage to try to (successfully) finish mine.

Works for me too Carrie. So when you ship yours, are you including a little tuna with it?
