5000 MEMBER TRADE!
Nov 1st, 2012 at 7:42pm

MAY I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE!

Announcing a new wood trade to celebrate reaching 5000 members.  We have gained 500 new members since June 26th!
Ladies and gentlemen, YOU are the reason Woodturners Resource exists.  Since we have reached this incredible count we want to celebrate by having a wood trade.

Here is how it works.
Go to the post office and obtain a flat rate box.(they are free)
Send me a PM with your mailing address and any woods you are allergic to.
You must designate whether you want to trade a MEDIUM or LARGE flat rate box, or One or More of Either or Both! I will be keeping 2 lists, one for Medium, and another for Large.
Cut some of your local wood to shape and size so that it will fill that box.
Just after the deadline I will send out the name and address of the person you will send your box to.  Get your box in the mail and then sit back and wait for a similar box to arrive at your house.

Names will be put into a name randomizer and assign who you will send wood to.  Once those names are announced, you may either simply surprise your recipient or contact them via PM to see what their preferences are and then fill their desires.  Personally, I prefer surprises and will have my box filled long before the names are drawn.

So, get your names and addresses to me via PM, fill those boxes, and let the games begin.

Deadline to have names and addresses in:  Friday, 11/16/12, midnight CST
Recipients to be announced no later than:    Saturday, 11/17/12
Wood in the mail no later than:                     Saturday, 11/24/2012

IMPORTANT!!  PLEASE READ!!  There are lots of creepy crawlies that have infested much of our wood here in the USA.  Because of that fact, borders have tightened on raw wood.  Even within the country I understand that the PO is watching things a bit more closely.  Besides we don't want to be responsible for the spread of insects that can devastate our supply of raw material.  I would ask that everyone PLEASE remove all bark from your wood. Do NOT send any Walnut or Ash. Both woods are under quarantine.  Do NOT ship any wood that has obvious borer presence.

I would further suggest that you fully tape all the seams and corners of the box so that any critters that do make it through your diligent inspection will be contained until it arrives at its destination.  If you used a sealer on the end grain, place the wood inside a plastic bag in the box.

Therefore:
This trade will be restricted to inside the borders of the USA.  (So sorry to have to do this    Cry )

Let's do some trading!

Here's the list so far:
Byron Riebow
Eddie Daniel
Kevin Hedrick
John Long
Tom Coghill

Come on boys and girls.  I got so many comments, emails, and PM's last time because you missed it.  Don't let this opportunity pass you by.  Especially this close to Christmas.  This is one way you can get a surprise gift that you know you'll be able to use and appreciate.  You might even want to wrap it in Christmas wrap when it arrives and open it up on Christmas morning.  What fun that would be.  So jump into the fun.  Get your name, address, and what size box you wish to trade in to me ASAP!  You don't want to be left out.

The list is getting better.

Byron Riebow
Eddie Daniel
Buck Nemitt
Bill Schoppert
Kevin Hedrick
John Long
Tom Coghill
Tom Goodman

Many more of you have said that you couldn't wait until the next trade.  You don't want to left out.  Takes no skill or talent.  Simply box up some wood and send it out.  You'll be getting another wood, often something that you don't normally get to turn, in return.  So, what have you got to loose?  Get your information in to me ASAP!

Hey All,

Just finished packing my Medium Box up tonight.  Hope someone enjoys the native species from the Florida Keys, amazing how much stuff you can get in a medium box. LOL.

Tom,
I live in Joplin, Missouri.  Very southwest corner of the state,  We have lots of oak, hedge (osage orange), elm, cherry, and yes the non-shippable walnut and ash.

When to the post office today and picked up my medium and large priority mail boxes.  Now all I have to do is start cutting some turning blanks.

Just finished cutting and packing my large box.  I even wrote up an information sheet containing the history behind each piece of wood that I'm shipping.

Can't wait to find out who I get to send it to. Cheesy

Happy turning everyone,
Steve

Steve D -

I have done the same.  Wood name, short info on each and where they were harvested and how long ago.  All good info that another turner may find interesting and may help them in the turning process.  smiley=thumbsup.gif
