I agree with John, and it reminds me of something that would have been made hundreds of years ago when skill and patience took priority over technology. I admire you skill and patience. Smiley Smiley

You guys that turn segmented pieces are something else, in the short time I have been really paying attention to turning, you guys are operating on a completely different level. To turn the full size version is impressive by itself, turning a miniature with that much detail is amazing.

I don't have the patience, even if I did for the layout and glue up, I know I would screw it up while turning it!

Steve, that would certainly rate as an article in the Tutorials, Projects and Tips section of the site. Just the showing of the jigs it takes to cut those segments without having them fly away after cutting. Just a thought. smiley=thumbsup.gif

This minature took about 5 months.  I didn't work on it every day, but I guarantee I thought about it almost every waking moment.  The sunrise ring took a good month to work out the size and cut the segments safely.  I did take pictures all along the way, to help me and anyone with the desire to know how I did it.  It is exciting for me to,  and if I can generate interest the better.  I will see if the administrators would consider an article.  Got a couple more pics.

I have been making a simple segmented rim for a project. It is a learning project and the more you do the easier it gets. Problem is there is not much room for errors. It is very time consuming but the rewards are worth it.

Really nice piece.  How long did it take to complete it?  And how many pieces are in that beautiful piece?
