Mark's Work Shop
Dec 18th, 2012 at 8:03pm

My shop is only 10 by 12, but it is warm in the winter and cool in the summer.  I used to be in the garage and did not use my lathe very much.  I have been inside now for just over a year and the time has just flown by.  I sure am turning much more than I used to.  It is nice to be able to come home from work and just walk into the shop and start turning, as opposed to having to fire up the torpedo heater and wait for it to warm up every thing and then having to always deal with the rust.

Back in 97 when I was still working for Chrysler, they handed out profit sharing checks.  I put mine to good use and bought my Oneway.  Being that I live close to the Canadian border, I was able to drive over to Stratford and pick up my lathe from the manufacture.  I am glad I was able to by it when I did, because I sure could not afford to purchase it now.  Having a small shop, I have tried to maximize the storage space and have built a lot of shelves.  I got tired of having to always clean off the shavings on the shelves behind the lathe, so I put up some curtains to keep the shavings off.  They work pretty good.  Some still get behind, but nothing like before.  I used 3/4" electrical conduit for the curtain rod because it was stiff and not very expensive.

I just got done building that last shelf unit.  That is why it is still empty.  Back behind the band saw there is a small air compressor in the corner under the shelves.  I am 6'2" and wanted my grinder up so I don't have to bend down so far, so I built a 2x8 and 2x4 base under the harbor freight cast iron pedistal.  I was able to pick up the casters from granger.com on their closeout page for cheep.  The shipping was more than the castors.  Brought my chain saw inside because things seem to grow legs when they are left unattended in the garage.

This log cutting bench is not in my shop, but it sure makes cuttting up the logs I get from the tree trimmers a lot easier.
