Very nice!

I've wanted to make a string of birdhouses that would fit on the LED lights so you'd have lights coming out of the doors. I love your idea too.

You are the master.  smilies=bowdown

That's a real beauty, Ron... and I can see a number of variations you could do to make a really fantastic "string" of lights. Maybe you will show that to us next Christmas?

That was my original intention, I have two sets of strings one of 10 and another of 20

I already have two other shapes that just need a finish.

Very nice Ron, now some questions.
Did you use regular lights or led?
Is the ornament directly on the string or did you use a small extension or pigtail?

Ed

The simple answer is yes. I tried everything you mentioned.

I started with LEDs and a pigtail and found out they must be inserted the right way (polarity) or they won't light. This worked ok with incandescent lights.

Next I wired up both types of lights inside of the bulb with the wires hanging out and a plug at the end. I found out all plugs are not the same. It would work on some strings and not others.

I tried to plug an LED into a incandescent string - bad idea - BFBF.

Then I measured the outside of all the lights we had at home and found that they all measured 3/8" (.375") and tapered towards the wire. So I drilled the cap with a letter T bit (.358) for a nice pressure fit.

So now they hang on either LEDs or incandescent lights.

The brightness of both types of lights shows through the wood because of how thin they are, so I lined the inside with reflective material.

Right now I have the bulb on a set of incandescent lights and yesterday the lights were on for 8 hrs. The wood, finish and glue joints handled the heat well.

Thanks Ron,
I looked a few years back and could never find a good source for the pigtail extensions. Now everything is going/gone LED, I'll have to regroup and try again.
