There was a topic of discussion on Japanese Lacquer finish last week.  I came across this by accident and thought it might clear up alot of questions.

Thanks Walt.  Once the customer realized what was in involved she decided on a more modern finish.  Big difference from how we do things today.

I am a turner living in Gifu Japan and I want to find traditional turners here. This video is fantastic! Thanks for posting!

These clips are fantastic.
The Japanese culture, like their art, skills, philosophy, and even their food, should and are admired for a reason.
One day, when I will have less worries in my life and I could devote all my time to my passions, I would move to Japan, and become an artisan apprentice.

Well, what can I tell you? Life in the wide world goes on much as if it has past age. Full of its own comings and goings, scarcely even aware of the existence of Hobbits...,  ...for which I am very thankful.
