using the search

I never have any luck with the search.

maybe it's me or I am using the wrong words or there really isn't anything on the site.

I want to make a wooden cane, so I typed in:  canes and then I tried walking stick.

I get nothing is this possible?
TIA

OK I found the issue. Lower down on the search form, there is a drop down of how old the post should be. The default is within the week. Far too restrictive. If you change that to All, then you get much better results.
