Thanks Jeff for the reply

I guess I am asking....

and...I did find the post in the other website and read it and it had nothing good to say about the WC grinder..really

Is that screech at start up going to mean a new grinder in 6 months or...will it screech on for ever??? with adequate results

This can't be that complicated...I don't know what to do

I want to start turning again but...my tools are dull as a hoe

Tom

Mine makes noise as well. I would not call it screeching, but it's noisy at start up. I've been using it for over a year with no problems. For $100 it can howl at the moon for all I care!

This one that WC replaced the first one with, had that harmonic screech too but not as bad.   Both wheels were our of true side to side so I trued them up with my diamond truing stick and that helped a lot.  Most of the noise is gone now on start up.  I was surprised at how shoddy the wheel build is.  I doubt there would be much noise with good wheels.

Jim,
Thanks for permission to post the link.

Basically Woodcraft is a good company. I have one of the old blue no name grinders, and it worked fine. It sounds like they are having a quality control problem, and are working to take care of it. For the price, it is fairly good grinder.

Called Woodcraft tech help line and talked at length with a rep.

He said pretty much all the grinders from this relatively new supplier have the so called screech at start up.  He said the "harmonic description" really wasn't BS.  The supplier has assured WC that it won't affect the performance or how long it lasts one bit.

I decided to keep it.   and....my tools are ever so sharp and it took very little time at all.  The wolverine system is awesome.

Now...wish I could see just what this Robo Rest looks like.

Search Youtube for "robo rest" and you'll find a couple videos about it by the inventor, robo hippy (i.e. Reed Gray).

On a fresh day, repositioned the whells again a bunch of times and now virtually no run out whatsoever and dressed no vibration.  I'd prefer it didn't howl at the moon,  but if it goes bad they will replace it so it's working great.

Not the reason to post.

After 2 weeks, something still bothered me about the Wolverine jig.  The platform came with what I call little welding smeggies, whiskers kind of like under the paint.  Made it tough to maintain a smooth grind on scrapers and part tools.  The tools kind of rode up a tad too to get over them.

So,  I finally emailed Oneway and said it wasn't a huge deal and how happy I was with how the jig worked but what should I do.

Within 2 hours Kevin ( I assume he must be part of the ownership unless Clay is a popular last name in Canada) and said call the order desk with ship info and a new platform would be on it's way.  No questions asked,  nothing I had to do or send back.

Thought I would post this to let you know how good they were to me.

Now...I need to look at and purchase some decent gouges to use the vari grind jig on.

I turned for 3 years with what I had, now I am on a spree.  When does it end?   smiley=shake head.gif

When your bank account is empty or you can't remember where the lathe is, whichever comes first.

My woodcraft grinder made noise when it started up but once I put the CBN wheels on it is quiet during start up and runs smooth now. I never could get the white wheels to run great even moving them around but they worked good enough to sharpen.
