Lately I've noticed a lot of segmented turning on Woodturner's Resource and I'm thinking maybe we should add a new board.

Give me your opinion on what you think and what you would like to see here.

It's not like the traffic in the other boards is so high that the segmented work gets swamped.

I agree that although segmented turning can have it own following, it doesn't yet seem to overwhelm the existing forum. I enjoy the cross section of topics in one place, variety is the spice of life Smiley
I would hope that consideration is given to sufficient responders who actually post a response to this thread and not just an anonymous poll vote results. Does the Gallery have a Section dedicated to Segmented turning?

I can go either way.  Having a Segmenting forum might open up more dialog on the subject.

I have to agree with Walt on this point. Although the turning aspect of segmented work is much the same, the construction of the piece has countless methods and outcomes. A segmenting forum would allow interested members to get more in depth into specific areas.
I guess we'll see what the poll has to say.

Haven't voted yet. But I read almost every section now and do not see a reason for another thread. I like reading about segmented work and how it's done, but won't be getting intoit. Glenn J.

I'm with Glenn...
There are some really wonderful segmented pieces that show tremendous talent/skill. I just wonder if creating a new section will mean more work for the moderator(s) than the benefits gained. I could be all wet (now there is a high probability!), Ron... but to me it's one of those "if it ain't broke don't try to fix it" things.

Just like we have a board for finishes and for marketing this would be a specialized board

The idea is for those that are interested in segmenting can learn and/or share their tips, jigs, plans and their accomplishments, By starting this new board all the segmenting threads will be in one place and hopefully easier to do a search for a particular topic.

If this forum is created there will be two new moderators that have experience in segmenting.

I  am neutral on it.  Either way the group wants is fine with me.  If you had an "undecided" choice on the poll I would have picked it.

Segmented turning (ST) has aspects that are different than a lot of the work that I do. I am not that interested (currently) with ST, but I may want to look there when figuring out how best to add something to an existing turing (simular to a glue-up for ST).

I think that adding it would help people find those topics quicker.

I voted yes.
Why not?
I reasoned that there were finishing, Tools and the like, why not segmented turnings.
I won't be upset if segmented turnings are not included...It just seemed like a new harmless, idea.

I wouldn't mind seeing its own topic.  It would make it easier for members to find specific info.  I re-read Toms post and his point about related techniques is exactly why I do woodworking.  Walts last project used different diciplines and that keeps it interesting.  My 2 cents.

I like the idea of a Segmented specific section. I am facinated by those who do segmented work, and think it would focus on that type of turning and keep it from being lost in the crowd.

Just my $0.02
