I voted no originally because I am a creature of habit and I get to liking things as they are and I almost always resist change. But! after reading all the posts I may have to change my vote because even though I haven't gotten into segmented turning, when and if I do, it would be nice to have a specific area to research from.

One way or the other I think we are all like that Breck.

i say go for it.  in your file cabinet, do you have one or two file folders, or do you have one for insurance, one for credit cards...?  sure would make searching  a  lot easier. smiley=thumbsup.gif smiley=thumbsup.gif

Based on what Ron has said about searching, and it's a good point, I'm going to vote  Yes. Glenn J.

I'd like to.

I'm thinking this will entail a 3 step process.

1) I'll go through the boards and make the moves
2) Then I'll make an announcement asking the thread's originator to shoot me a PM to let me know If I missed his thread
3) Next I'll ask the membership to point out for any that may have been missed.

Me too, Bert...
I originally thought no because I was thinking it would mean extra work for our moderators, and just plain did not think any past that. My bad!  Vote changed to Yes.

I voted yes.  I will still look at all the forums.
I am a bit different.  I started out doing segmented bowls. It was not until my third year did I look at solid turnings (mesquite).  Now I am in the process of combining the two.  That is adding a featured ring to a otherwise solid turning.

Like Mike I started out doing segmented bowls as I didn't have a resource for big chunks of wood, nor could I afford those that I came across.  Pine boards and 2X4's were my options.  I saw an article in a Wood magizene in the mid 80's and thats what started me segmenting.

FWIW - the wood for my first segmented bowl was cut from a 2x4. It was the 3rd or 4th bowl of any kind that I turned.

Sounds like a good start for a contest?

Funny how I was thinking of the same idea.  Make something segmented from an 8' 2x4.

I suppose I'm in good company. My first "bowl" (looks more like the classic dog dish shape to me) was a few 2x4's laminated together.

The idea of a segment turning forum is very appealing, since I am thinking about trying it.

I like the idea and voted yes.  I hope more people skilled in segmented techniques share their tips and experiences!
