Candy it is then.......
Mar 30th, 2013 at 2:03am

Ironically I am posting candy dishes at Easter......and not because I timed it that way either. So here are a few more that will be making their way to the Kincardine Victoria Park Gallery for the month of April. I have added one dish at the end and many Thanks to a wonderful workshop with Marilyn Campbell for the design idea.

    Thanks for looking.
    Dave

The first dish is a maple burl cast with alumilite resin, brown dye and bronze pigment. The rim of the lid has copper wire added to give it a glittering effect. I knew there was a reason to purchase the Drill Wizard from Oneway! The dish is @ 7" dia. and 3.5" tall.

The next dish is a small maple burl in blue and silver pigment. 6" diameter and 3" high.

The next dish is also a piece of box elder burl but this project had two pieces placed with their burled edges towards each other. This gave them the effect of a void between each other. Wormy.....Box Elder Burl cast in Alumilite and black dye with a hint of pearl white pigment.4" diameter and 8" tall. The band at the lid was part of the original cast at the top of the mold. The finial is African Blackwood.

This is another maple burl cast in Alumilite, but this cast has no dye. The only colouring effect is from the use of pearl white pigment and a blue metallic pigment. The bowl is @ 7" dia. and 4" tall. The rim of the dish is purpleheart.

This is another lidded candy dish cast of two different halves to give the illusion of one piece. The wood is Wormy Box Elder Burl cast in Alumilite with green dye and gold pigment. It measures @ 4" tall and 3" in dia.

After spending last summer doing a workshop with Marylin Campbell at our guild. I finally pulled together a coloured rim plate with the use of Alumilite pen blank leftover pieces and a solid cast of black to hold them. The plate itself is red oak and measures @ 8" in diameter. Thanks for the help Marilyn.

Nice work!  I think I like the colors in the first one the best.  But, all are great work.

Thanks for the comments.

As for the casting technique, there is a tutorial now in the hands of Ron Sardo and he is going to be adding it to the site soon.
