I can't imagine the hours needed to figure out how to do it let alone to actually cut and glue it all up before even turning it. Since I have never tried to hollow something that deep. Do you need special tools like for a hollow form, or could it be made using conventional wood turning tools?

Breck...
After I glued the third ring on I turned the inside as close to the finished as possible, then did the same with the next three rings and the same till I put the top ring on, then I used a steady rest to support the vase, slowed the lathe to about 800 rpms and used EW tools to finish..the outside was done with regular bowl gouge...
the turning time between each set of rings was 24 hrs..
I know they say you can do it in a shorter time, but I didn't want to take any chances...
