Third try at segmenting....?
Apr 15th, 2013 at 12:39pm

I created this box for the Beads of Courage program. The base is Silver Maple; the layers are Oak, Poplar, and Osage Orange; the lid is Mesquite with a maple finial handle. I kept the finial simple and rounded to avoid injury for a small child. We lost our granddaughter in 2006 to cancer. She was One year and One day old.

every attempt is practice isn't it? We are all in the program. What I really admire is the reason for it. It is the loss that makes us go on and that too takes courage. Well done my friend.

You definitely keep improving.
I was wondering how you are constructing these. What I mean by that is, are you gluing up the entire piece then turning, or are you adding a ring at a time. I think if you built them one layer at a time, sanding each layer on the lathe, you can eliminate the horizontal glue gaps. keep it up

Yes, I see improvement too.  You used the different woods well.  As Ed said work on the glue lines.

Jack you are getting better.  Your efforts are noticeable.  Refining your process will be worth your time.  Ed is correct in suggesting the leveling and sand the rings prior to glueing them.
