Neat open segmentation!!!

Built in rings or "bowl from a board" process?

Neither.

I started out building in rings and quickly found out it didn't work. After 5 failed attempts I finally came up with a method that worked. I had to build from the rim down and each segment needed to be skewed, individually stacked and leveled. There where other variables that popped up that I didn't expect such as I couldn't level each ring as I proceeded. (Final build was only lopsided by 0.02")

This took 6 weeks in planing, developing a new method and building the jigs. 2 weeks to assemble and a afternoon to turn. I'll admit, I had no idea if this would even hold together while turning.

While I'm excited by the concept I feel the design (profile) suffered because of the complicated building procedure.

There was another thread about which is the best table saw blade for cutting segments and maybe I should mention that I used a 7-1/4", 36 tooth, .07" wide kerf circular saw blade in my table saw to make every cut.

Ron, can you clarify on this "built in ring" process, I think I know what you're talking about but I've not not heard that terminology.
Thanks
