Kindly asking for your insights here.  We are rainbirds. Alaska in the Summer and Washington for the winter.  I bought a Nova 1624 for Alaska, and already have a 12' X 16' shed, but the shed has a table Saw, dust collector, drum sander, belt sander, spindle sander, floor drill press and scroll saw.  I think the lathe needs its own shed.  Would something in the range of 8' X 12' be adequate?

Thanks for the insights.

No matter how big your shop space is it's never going to be big enough.

Seriously though, my lathe corner in my shop is about 7' x 10' with the lathe and two work benches.  The corner is a little tighter than I'd like it to be but I can manage to get around.  Hope this helps.

My turning room is 8 X 16.  It was 8 X 12 and that was a little tight.  You want to have room for your grinder and probably a buffer.  Dust collection is of course a need also.  But..... you can get by with a smaller space.

Instead of a separate shed, maybe add on to the existing one?

Thanks much to all.  I am going to start by attempting cram-in and see if I can make it work.

We will see what organization can achieve.  I appreciate very much the experiences of working in small places.

+1 on what he said.  I needed more room so I added an enclosed lien-to on the garage and waiting for the door to get here.  If you were ONLY ONLY putting the lathe in the room, it seems like it would work.  However, they might have to send in a search party to find you in the shavings. Grin

Thanks, guys.  My shed is skid-mounted atop a gravel pad.  I had it built that way for relocation purposes in the hopes the step-son's chainsaw carving/sculpture/artwork business fluorishes.  Everything is sort of "temporary".  I need to preserve that relocatability.  Anyway, that argues against the lean-to expansion.

So long as you have found small spaces workable, I will try to cram as much as possible into the existing space.  If that does not work, I still have a tubular steel and fabric greenhouse I first used as a scroll saw shop with some success.  Maybe expansion comes with success.
Thanks
Terry
