Update to our shop
May 23rd, 2013 at 8:14am

Back in Dec of 2011, I posted some pics and description of our shop.

We have since added a 3520B to our arsenal and needed to enlarge the shop.

We enclosed the covered area on the front of the shop, to accomodate all three lathes and the bandsaw. This area is now our 'dusty' area. The old shop is now where we store our wood, keep the drill press and grinder and is kept relatively clean and dust free so that we can do our finish work in there, off lathe.

Excellent shop, I like that you installed a ceiling in the new front section, that will reflect a lot of light.

Did you add on the back too?

Good job.

Tom,

Yes, we enclosed the space under the deck/stairs for lawm equip storage.

Dennis,

Actually there are THREE lathes in there, there's a little tiny 1014 in the corner to the left of the red workbench.

Wow, what a great space!  Now I really want to paint my basement walls and ceiling just to brighten the space up.

Nice digs Ron!  My shop wasn't that clean before I moved in and it certainly not cleaner now.  I could fill up that tub under your 3520 twice at least!

Great looking shop! With a nice shop like that, I'll bet you can even park cars in your garage!  Wink

Ron you have a wood turners dream shop. Just having three lathes is enough to impress me, but it goes way past that everything is so fine and seems to be set up very well for working. I can't wait to see it when the curlies start flying. smiley=thumbsup.gif

nice looking turning area. smiley=thumbsup.gif

i would move the air compressor though.  sitting right by the lath, it will pick up dust in its intake.

Adding the 5 windows really makes this an appealing shop space.  My first thought was "good vibes".

Carrie, you'd be surprised as to how much brighter your shop would look with all the walls painted white, but remember, what goes on the walls need to be removed once your finished after each turning, especially is its wet, it would start to mold pretty fast if you left it their.

What wizzy said is right I have a wide ring of stain surrounding my PM 3520B including the ceiling. Of course I prepared for that because of advice on this forum and I have builders wrap on the walls surrounding my turning area. It is something to think about, if you plan on turning wet wood at all it will matter, if not probably not so much.

Hmm, so does this mean that all the stuff I don't see on the walls and ceiling of my dusty, spidery basement is molding anyway?  Or would it just be against that latex paint?  Right now, the walls and ceiling are lucky to see a broom more than once a year.  My basement is far from dry, but I do have a dehumidifier running in the spring and summer when we get seepage, so things don't stay wet too long.

Maybe it's for the best that I can't see what's down there very well Smiley
