MAY I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE!

You asked for it, you got it.  We are doubling the fun!  A double header!

Announcing a new Challenge & Trade to celebrate reaching 6000 members.  Ladies and gentlemen, YOU are the reason Woodturners Resource exists.  Since we have reached this incredible count we want to celebrate by having another C&T.

This trade is open to all members, even new ones.

Here is how it works:
Post in this thread if you want to participate, or you can wait until after you have completed your piece.
Turn your piece and take a picture of it to post in the gallery at the designated time.
Post again that you have completed your piece, and get it boxed.
Names will be put into random.com to assign with whom you will trade your piece.
This is a partner trade, so after the deadline I will post the pairings in this thread.
PM your mailing address to your trade partner.
Get your package into the mail and then sit back and wait for a package to arrive at your house.

We have a lot of new members, so we are going turn something basic.
Your Challenge is to turn a BOWL:  5-10" in diameter;  At least 2" deep
Brownie points for: Natural edge, Thin Walls, Turned embellishments (as opposed to Pierced), Angel wings. . .
So, look at the specifications, turn your bowl, and let the Trading begin.

C&T Gallery will open:                                  Thursday, 8/08/13
Deadline to have photos in the Gallery:           Monday, 8/12/13, 9am PDT
Partners to be announced by:                       Tuesday, 8/13/13
Piece in the mail no later than:                      Tuesday, 8/20/13

For those of you who are new to our C&T's,  It is a Challenge to create a piece, to the best of your abilities, that meets the specifications given, & once completed, you will Trade it to another participant either in a Round Robin, where A sends to B, B sends to C, C sends to D...  or you have a Partner to send your piece, and your partner will send you their piece.  Trade assignments are given after pieces are completed and all photos posted.  If you haven’t posted a picture of your completed piece by the deadline, you will not be eligible for a trade.

The timing allows about 4 weeks to give people time to learn and practice if need be.      You can post in this thread as soon as your piece is done, but don't post any pictures until the challenge gallery opens.  Remember, No Photo, No Trade. Pictures need to be clear and less than 75KB to post in the gallery.  If you haven’t already registered in the gallery, do so using the same User Name as in the forum.  It uses different software, so it is necessary to register and sign in separately.

This trade will be a Partner trade.  I will use Random.org to select the trades on Monday, Aug 12.  I will then post the pairings in this thread, and you need to PM your address to your partner. Packages should be postmarked by Tuesday, Aug 20.

OK!  Now who is going to sign up to try this?   Are you in?  It doesn’t matter if you are a seasoned turner or a relative newbie.  All we ask is that you make a serious effort to do your best.  If you are in, indicate whether you are willing to spend the little extra to ship outside the country if any of our Canadian or International members participate.

Everybody!  Lets Turn and Trade!!

There are only 3 days left.

The gallery is open for your entries.  It is labeled 6000 Member C&T.  You have until 9am PDT Monday to post your picture.  If you are not already registered in the gallery, you will need to register there separately from the forum since it uses different software.  Be sure to use the same ID's.

I know that I'm not too tech savvy but where do we find the gallery to post our pictures?  It will be probably late Sunday or early Monday before I will be able to post.  Vacations will do that to you.

Its amazing how quickly a 6"x 2 3/4" blank of sweet gum, turns into a hair under 5" x 2 1/8" bowl.... the blank was alot softer and punkier then I thought.

I am pushing to make Monday's deadline. Inlay tomorrow night, and finish hopefully Sunday night.

I'm in, the photo's not great.  The fire wire for the camera is still on order from the UK.  The camera is so old the smart media card won't fit the computer or the printer.  I had to shoot the bowl with Jalee's tablet then email the pic to my computer to resize it before I could upload it.  It's hard to hold the tablet and tap the screen with out moving. Argh!   Tongue

I'm out.  Lost most of the bowl around the garage.  It was an angel wing, and one end just disappeared, the other end came off when the lathe was almost stopped.

Ok I got in by the skin of my knuckles, literally  Grin

3 nights in the shop, about an hour each night (I have a 4 year old, an mom works grave yards).

It isn't perfect but I like the shape. It ended up at 4 7/8" dia and 2" deep. Wall thickness is still an issue for me, but it will get better as I practice more. Also I need some new epoxy as there were some pits and small voids in the inlay didn't notice it till I put finish on it  Angry. Hope who ever gets it will enjoy it.

I've been hit by a summer cold that's been keeping me in bed with chicken soup, so no bowl trade for me.  So sad!!

This C&T is closed.  The pairings are a little awkward as we had 7 people.  Sorry my bowl blew up.

Bob Hamilton Trades with Walt Nolan
Steve Doerr Trades with Curtis Warstler
Tony Rozendaal Sends to Guy Bratt Sends to David Hamann Sends to Tony R.

The first 2 pairs PM your mailing addresses to each other.  David PM to Guy, Guy PM to Tony, and Tony PM to David with your mailing address.

Walt, You will need to fill out a Customs Declaration - CN22 form at the Post Office when you mail your bowl.  Check the box for Gift.  Country of Origin is USA.  Description is “Wood Hand craft”.  Quantity is 1.  Weight is determined by Post Office scale   Value is $0   HS Tariff left blank.  Fill in the From & To sections, and then sign and date it.  As I understand current rules, these must be done at a regular PO, not a contract office in a store.

Bob, I know you've done these before.  Smiley

Please make sure your bowls are in the mail by Tuesday of next week.  Please post when you ship, and when you receive your bowls.

Thank you for participating.  I just wish we had more members take part.

My bowl to Bob is in the mail.  The folks at the Post Office said it would be delivered sometime next week.

I got my bowl sent off this morning.  I have given up asking for a delivery date since they have never been right yet.  Past experience says anywhere from 4 days to 2 weeks since it is on the same continent.  Definitely shouldn't take anywhere near the 10 weeks it took to get to Australia....

Take care

I must say I would be happy with any of the bowls created!  I think you guys did a great job!  For passing 6000 members I also wish more turners would have participated.  Come on folks!  This what it is all about!

I agree with you Walt.  All the turning for the swap were fantastic.  I had expected a lot more would have participated in this activity.  It is such a great way to get to know people and also to see up close and personal the outstanding work of the turners on WR.

We got back from a trip to Iowa this afternoon and the bowl from David was on the front step - had been there since yesterday morning.  There was also a surprise! in the package.  Very nice, David. Thank you.

Curt,
That my numbering system.  Each of my turnings has a number on it and I keep an inventory (date, size, wood type, description and price) and picture of my turnings.  That way I have a record of everything that I have turned and where it ended up..

Curt,
Your bowl came today and my wife loves it.  So what else is there to say Grin  She really likes the black line you have around the inside rim.  I'll be home tomorrow and have a look at it.
Thanks
