Nov 13th, 2013 at 1:03pm

I am not sure where to post this question. I have looked and cannot find this info on the site, any history about WR. I was wondering things like.. Who started WR, when, why, etc... just the history of WR.

Chris Wright started WR in 2003 with an Education grant from the AAW.  Originally we had a different domain name, but the site was severely hacked and commandeered in March of 2004.  Chris restarted it April 1, 2004 with the current domain.  We had 59 members by the end of the year, and I was the 96th member when I joined on August 1, 2005.  Ron was number 84 when he signed in on May 10, 2005.

When Chris ended up in the hospital after a extreme reaction to turning African Sumac, he lost interest in turning and transferred the domain to Ron Sardo.  Ron has been at the helm ever since.  As the site grew, it became too much for one person to manage, so Ron has had several Admins and Mods to help him over the years.  I became a Mod, and later an Admin.

What happen was the host provider claimed they owned the previous domain name and wanted $5,000 to turn it over to us.

Lesson Learned: Be careful when a host provider offers you a free domain name when you use sign up for their service

I am glad I ask as I had no clue that AAW was involved in WR.

Only as the provider of the initial funding with the education grant.  There has been no further support from the AAW.
