I wasn't going to post this here since it is only peripherally related to wood turning, but from the responses I have been getting since I put it up on Youtube there are some other turners that might find it useful.  I had to give up my cabinetmaker's style workbench when I bought my new lathe since I didn't have the space for both.  There have been quite a few times since then that I really wished I had a work surface that I could clamp things to in order to work on them with hand tools.  This is my solution.

Hi, Grant:
There are two 3/8" allthread rods running through the benchtop laminations.  They were a great help when gluing everything together.  I glued up the top in three sections that were each narrow enough to run through my thickness planer and then glued the three sections together.
