Center table leg turning question
Aug 17th, 2014 at 12:42pm

Hello, Im new to this forum and have a question for the turning experts.

Im currently making a walnut segment table and the centre leg is to supposed to match the one on this table as much as possible.

Turning the leg round won't be a problem but I can't work out how to chamfer it to give it the six sided effect.
Any one got any advice?

The center was probably built from 6 wedges that were shaped before assembly.

Start with large stock, band saw contour, cut angles, assemble, simple  Grin

Hmm.. one could consider off center turning on six offsets. That would require a heavy lathe and counter balance. It may be easier to band saw and sand the contours.

Sounds quite simple.
Ill give it a go, hopefully I'll be able to make a few slabs with the contour all matching. The Table is 1.8m di so the leg has to be thick. My bandsaw will only take 30cm max cut so will have to make a load all the same..

Thanks for the advice anyway.
