Finish repairs
Nov 8th, 2014 at 10:30am

I have finished about 40 bowls. (not counting failure pile) I find later that some finishes are splotchy or the bowl had a ding I did not see. How do y'all mount a finished bowl to work on it abit more.Particularly the rim or inside. I have been using tenons. Would the use of recesses help with this? I tried recesses early on but stupidly forgot and made the bowl bottoms too thin.

If i understand what you're asking correctly, I would say a vacuum chuck. You may be able to use a donut chuck if the rim curves inward enough. The alternative is to simply repair by hand UN-mounted.

i agree with ed also after you sand it out sometimes the blotches are just in the wood cherry and pine are good for that
i use a sanding sealer or a wood bleach on the wood before i finish
