I had a PM about this vid and I didn't mean to mislead anyone. Here's my reply to the PM

OK, the vid is a bit misleading as the second half is just the first half backwards. The wood is a very forgiving fresh cut holly and the tool is a Reg Sherwin roughing gouge which is pretty rare in the US I understand it was given to me by an older turner who had to give up his shop a few years ago.
