Ok so my current workshop believe it or not is a portable tent garage that we used to park our pickup in that want fit anymore because of the work bench, lathe, drill press, wood,.... Ya you get the idea. 
My new shop is going to be a 10x16 lofted storage barn with side doors and two windows.
Setup is pretty much a blank slate.
The only equipment I'm missing that I really need is a dust collection system and a band saw. I have access to a lot of hard woods, my archery club had a logger company in a few years ago and do a selective cut all pine, they stacked a pile of rejected trees almost all of it is hardwood of one kind or another, but I really don't have a good way to blank em out.
Going to have to wait on the band saw and see if I can fabricate a dust collection system.
I have an idea on a unit that I think will work
I am going to use three 50 gallon plastic barrels two of them with be the dust bins with vacuum running through both in series one will catch larger stuff then the other to catch dust.
The third barrel will have a quarter section cut out of it and will be mounted under and along the back side of the lathe,
My intention is to catch the majority of the shavings before they hit the ground, anyone tried something like this?

The harbor frieght DC is popular. Any DC should have a cyclone to extract most of the dust and larger particles. JMHO.

40 3x4x8 you will have some left over for framing windows doors and so on
16 7/16 osb I made my own 4 foot door with a sheet of osb Your choice

Roof
I had some free 2x6x8 that I spliced to make 12 foot you can also use 2x4 a lean too uses much less roof material Caution!!!!! This is a 24" center if you live in a high snow area then you will need to drop to a 18" center and use thicker decking

6 sheets osb depending on your location
My lean too is fairly easy to build. Because of the standard size there are very little osb cuts and little waste.
Here are some other money saving tips
Lowes and Home Depot  sell culls all the time  what's really nice is the managers are not locked into the price listed on the sticker and many times you can get them to cut the price by half or more again.

My riser  across the high side of my building was built on the 24 inch same as my walls and is 24 high outside dim... Instead of buying windows I will buy glass and frame the glass in myself  with molding the glass is only a few bucks a sheet when it's that small.
Building your own door will save you a lot of money and let you make an oversize door for your shop.
