Liability Insurance
May 6th, 2015 at 11:41am

For those of you who sell your items, what type of liability insurance do you carry? Can you recommend a provider?

Thanks,

Jenn

This is the only reason I would recommend AAW. They offer a decent insurance package geared toward woodturners

Remember how the girl sued Bic after she got stabbed in the neck with a Bic pen by her irate boyfriend.  Because there were no warnings that it could be used as a weapon.

Ralph,

I see a lot of wood baby rattles and teething rings that I would not sell for fear of a lawsuit. I think it's is prudent to investigate rather than assume everything will be fine.

I wouldn't sell wood baby rattles and teething rings.

You know they are going to be chewed on and I believe child safety comes first and foremost.

Discuss with your agent, ideally one that represents more than one insurance company.  If you have a workshop open to the public you may need commercial business insurance for that, and perhaps a rider for shows.  If you don't have a workshop open to the public perhaps a personal umbrella policy will cover shows, but I don't know.

Good discussion,
It's unfortunate that we have become a bit too much of a litigious society but you certainly need to protect yourself. There are those who will sue for just about anything.
