Group sales at an Art/Music show
Jul 29th, 2015 at 12:28am

A few months back, a small number of our turning clubs members [10] decided it would be fun to have a booth at an upcoming festival.  I volunteered to finish this plan when someone had to pull out.
The subject of credit card sales has come up.   Good idea.  However I don't have anyway to do this.  I've yet to find out, of the 8 remaining members, who might have such a device.
Has anybody worked with a group to do something similar?
And how does that little gadget work and what expenses are involved?

Through Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register, it costs 2.75% of the amount from cards being swiped through the reader.  Readers are free from Square.  I suggest that each person get their own reader and Square account.  It takes a smart phone or tablet with cellular or WiFi access.  Just sign up, order the free reader, download the app, and you are ready to go.  I've used it for 2+ years.

The readers for Chip type cards and Near Field Communication links(think Apple Pay) are not available yet, and they will not be free.

From what I understand they will be giving a credit

Quote:
Promotion terms: Limited to one per seller and account while supplies last. Seller must have a registered Square Account, pass identity verification, and link a qualifying bank account. Offer available to sellers in specific merchant categories that exceed estimated or actual minimum processing volume requirements. Non-qualified sellers may be eligible to purchase the item for $49, and receive $49 in reimbursed processing fees. Square reserves the right to modify or cancel the offer at any time

But they won't be available before November at the earliest.

Thanks guys    Oh *&^%$#&*    Looks like I'm gonna have to break down and get a stupid smart phone.   People keep texting me and there's no coverage in Michigan's North woods.  Now I need a credit card reader.   My old "Pay as You Go" Boost flip phone is starting to hold me back.  I hate to leave "Pay as You Go".  It wasn't but a couple of months ago $20 would give me more that 3 months of phone service.   Cry

I believe you can get a "Pay as You Go" smart phone.  (I'm not sure what they cost)

I also have a P-A-Y-G flip phone somewhere.. I use an older Ipad that doesn't get 3G but will transact on WiFi. If I don't have service I can enter the card either manually or swiped and it will go through as soon as I get in service. You could probably find one of these Ipads somewhere for cheap and you would have to have a phone contract.

We've worked out the credit sales issue.  At this time there's only one person with the "Square" he can do his own thing everybody else is cash and carry.  For myself I've decided to join the 22nd century and get a smartphone and possibly a "Square".  While I'm at it maybe I'll get a flat screen TV.  It's getting really really hard to buy tubes for the Zenith.

Guy, about 75% of my sales were by credit card in the last 2 years.  Hardly anyone carries a checkbook, or much cash.  They carry Credit and Debit cards.

At the last art fair, I think I only had 3 cash sales, 2 by check and everything else was on credit card.

Picked up my new phone this afternoon.  Droid  Still waiting for the number to be switched over. Verizon left a message that said 24 to 48 hours.  Hmmm.   I'm also receiving texts meant for someone else.  ????  It'll get worked out.  Then on to the Square

Hmm?

My daughter started her own plan about a month back and the store switched it over right there. Within a minute she was set to go.

That was a release from your plan to hers within the same company.  I can switch between phones at Verizon without talking to anyone, just do it online.  Had to do that when a new phone died several years ago.  I switched back to the old one for a week.  Some PAYG plans are treated differently.  They have to turn off one phone and then turn on the other.

I do what William does with an Ipad and down load when I get home. the only thing is it can't check credit card at point of sale.
Square works great and got the advice here. Thumbs Up
