I just place wax paper above and below the group of rings that are glued up then stack some weight on top. Usually the weight is a block or two of wood or sometimes just a chuck. As long as the weight is evenly distributed you shouldn't have any problems.

Our club has a "stomper" that Lloyd Johnson sells over at the woodturner pro site.  It works well for centering rings.  We have found a 10lb bar weight works well for the clamping pressure.
