We're starting to slow down a bit with our submissions, time is moving fast.
Let's see those great pieces I know you have.

I tried to get some pictures that looked reasonable. Lighting is an art and I am a klutz Tongue
Will try again tomorrow, outdoors with natural light.

I couldn't agree more.
I've learned (still learning) a lot about just how much light can be required for the "right" look. It's definitely not an easy thing to master IMO. Since I don't have a permanent setup I still struggle at times.

when you take your pieces outside to shoot, put up a white bedsheet between the piece and the sun to act as a diffuser giving you a nice soft, even light.

Even then, if it is a bright sunny day, you might still get too much light on one side so you would need to add a white reflector on the other side to even it out. A white mat board works fine.

Big clear plastic tubs work great as light diffuser too, as long as it doesn't have a blue tint. Just place a nice backdrop, place your piece inside and shoot away. Clear tubs also help scatter reflections too.

I had a vision, but getting the photo to present it is tougher than I thought. My bud vases and colorful flowers to brighten up a winter day and ward off cabin fever.
I will try again to get better light and get rid of reflection. content will stay the same.

Since you are taking the photo again can you see if you can avoid the hard edge where the backdrop meets the table.

The best way to do that would be to curve the cloth where the two angles meet.

If you move the backdrop further from the subject (a longer table helps) you would get a better transition in color and effect. Also, using a smaller numbered f/stop (as in f/4 as opposed to f/16) will knock the background out of focus which would help the background look smoother.

You mentioned the reflections, which to me it looks like a window, right now the reflection is at 6:00, see if you can move the reflection to around 4:00-4:30. It also looks like most of the light is coming from above, see if you can lower the light to about 2:00. Doing this will create a nice shadow on the left creating a more dramatic effect.

Thanks for the extra effort Bert.
Photography certainly isn't for everyone and can definitely be another vortex as you described.
