Music Box

I guess this would be considered embellished:  I was attempting to mimic a stoneware jar with this one.  Since I was going to paint it I glued up some pieces (4"x4") of Poplar and turned four parts. The movement sits on the base and the body is attached via glue and a lap joint.  I turned the "grooves" with a scraper and sanded them down a bit to remove any sharp edges.  The lid and the ring that holds the glass were turned from separate pieces of poplar.  I painted the parts using Old Village "Pearwood" and stippled the parts using a dark brown acrylic and a toothbrush.  This is going to be a gift to my 10 year old granddaughter so I did a Winter theme with the snowmen and the holly.  The box plays "Winter Wonderland".

Eric, another incredible piece. So many of your pieces look so simple when they are done but yet are complex in the way they are put together.

Eric you stand alone in my opinion in the work you do because no one (I have seen) can touch your type work with horn and other small treasures you make. This piece is wonderful. Thumbs Up

Thanks all for the encouragement. The next time I make a music box I will take some pix of the steps I follow.  It's really not complicated and makes a wonderful gift to someone.
