Hello from VA
Nov 30th, 2015 at 5:08pm

I'm new to the Forum, but not to turning. Started in 2004 with a Jet mini lathe, but life circumstances derailed my passion for turning in 2007. At this time, I have rekindled my desire to transform wood into something other than saw dust.
I have since turning my last project, lost most of my vision.  Thanks to the VA, I have relearned to turn without my sight. Which scares my wife out of her mind. However, the greatest difference now is how long it takes to complete a project.
I bought a Ricon midi lathe recently, after completing a 7 week school at the VA Blind Rebilitation Center in West Haven, Connecticut. The totally blind instructor I worked with gave me lots of hope and confidence.
So, I'm slow and methodical, but like connecting with others who love to turn. Cool

Welcome Robert.  I know your area well.  I have family in Charlottesville, and spent my summers there until I was about 13.  Haven't been through Culpeper in about 12 years.  Been living in Arizona for the last 33 years.

Welcome from SE Texas!
Glad you're overcoming that "speed bump"---to me nothing more relaxing than turning---well outside of fishing, anyway.

Everyday liberating nice things from ordinary chunks of wood---and I like gnarly wood, the outcome is nearly always better than the start.
