Hello from Vancouver Island
Jan 5th, 2016 at 7:57pm

Hello everyone I just wanted to introduce myself.  I'm from Vancouver Island BC and hope to learn and share a lot of projects and info on this forum.

I recently bought a mini max t124,  I like the lathe a lot so far, the only downfall so far is that it only has 4 speeds and I'm a little bit confused on how to change the speed with the belts... I cant seem to find where I loosen the belt.  Another question I have is that I'm planning to change the bearings this weekend,  is there anything I should do while I'm at it?  There isn't too much play but enough wobble when I have a project unsupported by the tail stock that I figure Id just change them.  Tanks in advance

Shane

Welcome Shane
I'm sure someone has information about your lathe, I would post your questions under ToolTalk You may not get too many responses here on the into page.

Shane: Before you go to the time and cost to change out the bearings, I would suggest that you make sure they are the problem. With nothing on the spindle - no chuck, no faceplate, no center - is there runout? If not, your problem with pieces wobbling without tailstock support may be that they are not square in the chuck or are not centered on your faceplate.

Your issue may well be bearings, but I would be interested to know how you came to that conclusion.

Is the thrust/tension washer at the back of the spindle under compression?  That was what was causing the wobble in mine.
