Hello from Sunny Phoenix
Feb 11th, 2016 at 1:36pm

Hi everybody, my name is Jon Kenton. Originally hailing from across the pond (UK) but been in Phoenix, AZ for the last 16 years.

I am an avid woodworker and have been turning flat boards into sawdust for many years. I had never really considered turning before, primarily as I did not have the space as my shop was my garage and I also needed to keep 2 cars in there! It was a squeeze and I had to keep tools against the walls and bring them out/put them away as I used them. A real pain but you do what you gotta do!

Last year I managed to get my first dedicated space as I converted an old shed we had been using as a game room into my wood shop - Hurrah! Its not a huge space (~14x17) but its all mine and it has AC! The last last 12 months have been a fun time getting things set up and trying to maximize the space. At the end of last year I managed to carve out some space for a lathe and picked up a great deal on a used Nova Comet II with a bunch of extras, turning stock and kits. I am only now just getting some time to learn how to use it so am looking for all the help and advice I can get.

Many apologies ahead of time for all the likely newbie questions and I promise to try and search the forum first before repeating questions that have been asked dozens of times.

If there are any other Phoenix based members who get together to share and learn I would love to be included and get some of the collective experience to rub off.

Thanks for having me.
