Donation Bowls

There is a local fundraiser for meals for the homeless.  They requested that our club donate some bowls.  I was given a few pieces of very plain white birch, too plan to not embellish.  Here are 4 examples (of the fun I had) from the log blanks:

(I can't think of a better way to test how the public likes embellishments than at a fundraiser auction!)

I like it. Great use of colour and embellishment. And for good cause as well. Well done.

I really like the kind of mottled look on the back of the orange one....was that a deliberate effect or more the result of spalting interacting with the dye?

Have you heard back about how well they were received?

These pieces had no color, they were simply white - like the 3rd bowl.

The yellow/orange /red bowl are dyes put on in successive layers.  Applied with wadded up plastic wrap...kinda dabbled on.  Added a couple specs of dark blue for interest.

The first one (green) is meant to make one think of bamboo.  The bowl is silky smooth, the application of the green color was irregular to bring out a banding appearance.  Red was then dabbled on top for a bit of added interest.

The auction is in Mid- March.  I will let you know what happens.  Thumbs Up

Tom, I really like #2.  How large was the wad of plastic wrap?  It reminds me a little of using plastic bags to paint a wall. My next fav is #3, them #1 and finally #4.
