Reed, What would happen if a hole was drilled on the other side of the saw from the boot, by the area where the pile of dust collected, to provide better air flow for picking up that dust? Seems like there would be more than adequate volume of air leaving the boot vs the amount coming into the saw from smaller openings. Seems like there could be a few more openings where the dust collects, in other words. Maybe a large screen added to prevent mice from entering.

Went to Home Despot's website and found them from about $8.50 to $12.00 or so. Thanks, Reed! I also like the idea of drilling extra air holes in the opposite side for air to be drawn in and helping the dust to move into the boot thingy.

Expect that the big bandsaw makes sawdust in a hurry.

Don, that makes me wonder if any one has ever done camera views inside the cabinets to see how the air flows... That would help a lot to see where improvements need to be made. One point that has come up is that square base cabinets always get piles in the corners. Saw one clip about a Hitachi bandsaw, and the guy put in a piece of sheet metal that made a nice arc along the bottom, and put in a round port at the bottom. It did a good job.

I haven't had any problems moving the wet shavings since I put in the end boot.

I wasn't sure if the 'edited out' word would pass or not. Hope it wasn't too offensive, totally directed at vacuum action...

I think adding a compressed air hose to help blow & lift the cuttings might help.

My Rikon saw has a hole right where the dust accumulates. I had to cut out the finger guard but now it works ok. I think it works better because the dust collection port is right below where the blade is cutting at the bottom of the cabinet. It also is located on the back of the saw. I agree dust collection could certainly be better. My old bandsaw was horrible.

I agree. My 17 inch Grizzley has two dust ports, one near the table, one at the bottom. I use the top one and leave the bottom one open. I have the Harbor Freight 2 hp collector and so far never had a clog. I'm thinking of reversing them to see if it would work even better.
