Very light weight, grows very fast, and that has some big growth rings. robo hippy

been wanting to try to find some paulownia...it's a traditional woodworking tree of choice in Japan used by sashimono crafters for centuries. There used to be a tradition that when a baby girl is born, a paulownia tree was planted, so that by the time she reached the age to marry, the tree would be ready to harvest to make her dowery chest.

heh....that's a VERY dangerous question to ask a self-avowed wood-hoarder. Wink

mostly i'd like to see how it works. I've always been a fan of sashimono woodwork and watching vids of them working with the stuff is just plain amazing.

I suspect it's a bit on the "soft" side, given the characteristics i've looked up about it. I've heard it compared to Eastern Red Cedar in it's density.

Haven't much mention of it being used for turnings, mostly it seems to used to make boxes and such. I'd be happy with some modest off cuts and scraps from someone's scrap bin - say enough to make maybe a smallish box
