Off Center Turning?

Does anyone on here ever do any off center turning? Do you use a homemade jig or one of the special chucks? I want to try it sometime and am just gathering my thoughts.

The examples I've seen simply moved the stock on the headstock and tailstock drives.

There are as many different types of off center turning as there are oak, or maple trees. One end can be off set with the other end staying on center. Both ends can be off set from the center. You can turn on multiple center points. The center points can be off set from each other which can result in a spiral. I have played with it, and could show a few examples. One thing for sure, sharp tools, and much slower turning speeds.

The above is a handout by Barbara Dill.  Should serve you well to get started.  If you want to spend some money there are eccentric chucks available.  A good use of some old 2x4's.  Takes lots of practice.  Fun stuff though.

I have the PSI off center chuck system. A lot of fun, cloverleaf bowls, off set bud vases, etc. An inexpensive and solid piece of kit that opens up a load of opportunities.

Kind of late to the party on this but David Reed Smith has a bunch of info on his site on building jigs & fixtures for offset turning.
