Woodturner Pro vs Segcalc
Apr 17th, 2016 at 9:04pm

What are your thoughts on these two? I have Segcalc and have generally been happy with it. However, I see that a number of people also use WTPro. I am intrigued by Lamination Pro part of WTPro.
Thanks for any input.

Bruce,
Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register is one part of a suite of softwar. It can be used as a stand alone and has gotten good reviews. I know others here use it and hopefully can give you some information.
I'm not sure what you;re refereeing to with "segcalc", could you be more specific.
There are also other programs available like Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register
It all depends on your segmenting style and needs

Ed,
Thanks. It is Segmented Project Planner that I am referring to. It shows up as "segcalc" on my app list. Sorry.
I have used it to make a few bowls and it works great. One of the biggest benefits is the resulting cutlist. I am just wondering if WTPro has any major benefits beyond what SPP has.
Thank you.

I use wood turner pro. It is a bit of a learning curve but once you catch on it is a good program. I like the fact that you can import a picture size it and then set up your segments and print out a cutting list

I wish I could tell you more than what is listed on their site.
I have SPP and got it when it first came out, along with the book by Bill Kandler.
I really only use the cut-list myself, I know there is more to the software, but I mainly design things in my head.

I still draw my vessels on paper and use my calculator to produce my own cut list.  The last of the dinosaurs I guess.

There are some feature ring design tools in SPP and you can purchase more. I am interested in whether WTPro is  of more help in that area.
Thanks

I also draw my shapes on graph paper and use a calculator to figure out the sizes.  I'm sure the software works fine but I enjoy doing the math.

I find that with the wedgie sled and SPP I can cut and glue a ring in less than 1/2 hour. Not sure if that is really fast or not but using both of them sure makes it seem like it.
Of course I have to create my design first in order to get the cut sheet and that takes time.
