Advice for top ring
May 4th, 2016 at 8:51am

This bowl is almost complete but the top ring does not look right to me.  Still have to take it to about 1/4" thickness and the bottom ring will be turned smaller at the end.  Any suggestions?

Looking good, the feature ring seems to have come out well.
IMO, I would put a ring of (maple I'm guessing) on the top, possibly overhanging to form a bead on the outside of the rim. This could be mimicked on the base. This may help tie the top and base together with the wide feature ring and balance the it out, so to speak.
just a thought.

IMO: Very nice shape bowl. Agree with Ed in adding a solid ring above may tie things together. Place a layer of veneer between solid and segmented.

maybe make the top segment ring less high?? about a 1/3 of what it is. Top ring takes your eyes away from the feature ring. Too "loud'.

Could it be that the dark rings do not align with the diamonds?

Again very nice shape. Southwest flavor.

That was throwing me off as well, (24 segment top ring and 16 diamond feature pattern) can be distracting

How about continuing the diamond motif but in the top of the top ring.  I would have an alternating ring but line it up with the feature ring and only half or a quarter as tall.

I like the bowl especially the feature ring. The only thing that I would do is shorten the top ring and add another dark short ring for the top and bullet nose it.
I would like to know how you did the feature ring with the diamonds.
