The article doesn't mention what patents were infringed. Sounds like the process is different from Saw Stop. Can the idea of stopping a blade be patented?

From what I know, SawStop has what is usually refereed to as "a web of patents" (over 20 as far as I know). Meaning no matter which way you attempt to approach the issue you are blocked.
Personally I think the REAXXX is a fundamentally different approach to the same issue. One stops the blade spinning, one moves the spinning blade out of the way. Sounds simple to me but as they have in the past, I'm sure SAWSTOP will fight tooth and nail against any competition.

to me, sawstop is getting greedy. they should be thinking safety, not lining their own pockets at OUR expense. if the sawstop was the only table saw on the market, i would go back to a hand saw.

That's the part that gets me the most.
Way back when, Mr. Gass (who is a doctor) was telling anyone who would listen that he was all about safety. His main goal was to stop tablesaw injuries.
His "philosophy' is that without his SawStop technology a tablesaw is inherently dangerous, I strongly disagree.
He actually offered to license the SawStop tech early on but since there is no law requiring such safety devices everyone rejected him. Now, fast forward a few years, there is a little competition, I think it may be sour grapes.
I very much hope he looses this case.
How can you claim you are all about safety and sue everyone who tries to improve the safety of their own product.
I'm really getting tired of this guy.

I think at one point early on he wanted the G to mandate that all table saws have his SawStop technology installed.

If you look up, CPSC table saw, most everything is from 2011.
As far as I know, the deadline has come and gone with no new laws passed. There was a CPSC petition at the time you could sign and indicate your views on the subject (I signed)

Is the finger sensing technology different between the two versions? Is that what SS is claiming Bosh is infringing on?

I think thats what this case is about, not like it matters. Anyone that developes anything the even slightly resembles the SaStop in any way seems to get sued. Many smaller manufacturers haven't  bothered to spend the money on R&D because it's pointless, you'll just get sued. Since there is no law requiring such technology yet only the Large companies can afford to peruse this. Others will wait until it's required and probably by then will be able to purchase the tech from another company.
While I don't agree, some have speculated that Bosch would simply buy SawStop, (which they could easily do) and that that was SawStop's  plan all along

update
I recently received an Email about the Bosch Reaxx saw.

To their credit, (IMO) Bosch is not backing down, the saw is available for sale.

Looks like with either one, they will not like green wood or very moist wood. My son uses the Sawstop and has to be careful of damp wood. He has found a blade that is guanenteed replacement no matter how destroyed.

This is one reason I hate the term "flesh sensing technology"
IMO it's moisture sensing and that can come in many more forms than flesh. I think it's misleading.

Could you tell me what brand of blade he is using, I can't say I've heard of one with that warranty before.
Thanks
