Vase with triangles
May 31st, 2016 at 9:41am

Finished the vase this past weekend. I turned it almost exclusively with a 1/2" bowl gouge.  Using a bowl gouge takes some time to learn but it has become my 'go to" tool for most turnings.
Vase is approximately 9 1/2" tall x 6 1/2" dia.  Made from figured maple, paduak, and black dyed veneer.

Hey Julian, I just thought I'd mention that you might get some more comments on your piece if you add "C&C welcome (comments & critiques welcome)
Many people will resist posting any comment positive or negative without knowing if you're open to it.

Here is a resized picture. Hopefully it will be bigger. I followed Ron's instructions.
Comments and critiques welcome Smiley.

Thanks Julian, the photo resize looks good.

As far as C&C goes, IMO the main issue is the placement of the feature ring.
Typically it is placed at the widest part of the profile.
If yours were 1/2 to 1 layer higher up on this piece it would do two things.
One, it would emphasize the feature ring more..
Two, it would emphasize the overall shape of the vessel, which looks nice.
If it were up one layer it would also be right at that 'magical" 1/3-2/3 mark, that people seem to like.
