If the product contained tung oil I'm sure Minwax would proudly list it in their MSDS, instead they only list "Mixture", which could be anything.

Sadly, many manufacturers have been replacing boiled linseed oil and tung oil (2 preferred drying oils) with a cheaper non-drying soy oil and cobalt driers. Cobalt is listed on the MSDS because it is a hazard material.

They get away with this by calling the product a tung oil finish. If it was really tung oil they would call it simply Tung Oil.

Most likely, linseed oil.
If a manufacturer won't tell you what's in their product, it should probably raise a red flag.
(it's not just Minwax, many other manufacturers are guilty as well)

It's my understanding that a law was passed that only requires manufacturers to list ingredients that are designated as hazardous. You can see for yourself in the pdf.
"There are no additional ingredients present which, within the current knowledge of the supplier and in the
concentrations applicable, are classified as hazardous to health and hence require reporting in this section"

They're not required to list anything else, so they typically don't.
If you want tung oil, make sure it's listed by name as an ingredient, otherwise you're just guessing.

Tung oil was brought into the states during WWII from China when the military learned that this was an excellent finish and is used to waterproof their boats (junks). Tung seeds were brought in and grown in Florida in the early 40s. Back then this was called China Oil

What's the shelf life on it, and when should I consider getting rid of it?
