Hello from Corn Country Illinois
Jun 13th, 2016 at 12:16pm

Freshly retired and a new newbee at turning. (First lesson, put masking tape on shirt to seal pockets & keep wife happy.)  I bought a Rikon 70-100 and hope to become decent at making pens (but how many Christmas's will the extended family put up with get pens?) and other small projects.

I'm located half way between Peoria and the Quad Cities in NW IL. where the sound of corn growing is deafening this time of year. Looking forward to reading all the tricks and tips to be mined here.

Welcome John. Make yourself at home.

Don't worry everyone I have given a pen to loses it before a year is up.   Grin

You will soon discover lots of other things you can do.  Feel free to ask question lots of friendly helpful people here.

Welcome John,

You're in a beautiful area of the country! I just got back from visiting family in Mackinaw, IL.
This site is a treasure trove of information and experience, and everyone is happy to share! We've all been where you are now, and it only gets better. Thumbs Up

Everyday liberating nice things from ordinary chunks of wood---and I like gnarly wood, the outcome is nearly always better than the start.

Welcome from southeastern Wisconsin.  Many years ago I traveled for a farm equipment company and spent some time in your part of the world.
