First for me
Jul 2nd, 2016 at 8:07am

This is a first time I have had a problem with General Finish Salad Bowl Finish.  I have applied the first coat, wiped it off and am waiting for it to dry.  It's been a week and it is still tacky.  My first thought was that it was too humid, but it's hot here.  Humidity is not the issue.  I shook the can before opening so it was well mixed.  Any other suggestions as to what the problem may be?

Sounds like a product batch problem. It may be worth considering contacting General finishes customer service team. There should be a coded batch id number on the can that will help them narrow done the actual age of the product. Good luck and thanks for posting.

I'm with Bert on this.
Once a finish start that behavior, it's already done (bad).
If it's a new can I would return it, otherwise it may have sat too long and/or been exposed to air (leak in can seal).
I've never had that experience with GF salad bowl finish, it's a first for me as well.
Please let us know what you end up doing, thanks

You weren't putting it on on top of something else were you?

And there's no chance the problem is the wood on which the finish was applied?

I purchased the can last month.  The wood was Bradford Pear.

I took the finish off with Mineral Spirits, sanded it back and applied Deft Clear Gloss finish.  It is dry to the touch already and is a beautiful finish.

I tossed the can of salad bowl finish. If it's a bad batch, it's gone now.  I'm most likely through with that finish.  Not happy with the results.

Unfortunately, it happens from time to time, glad you recovered your piece.

I don't use it, but have talked with others who do and they have made comments that would steer me away from it. A bit more laborious to get a good finish and catches lots of dust before skinning over.
Glad to hear you were able to reclaim the work piece.
