Philip Haynes WR Noob Offline WR Rocks! Posts: 12 Waynesboro, MS Minnesota USA Gender: Comet II	Router Tables Aug 4^th, 2016 at 8:08pm I lost my shaper in a fire and considering a router table. I have no knowledge what so ever about tables and routers. I have a couple of old Craftsman routers and I don't know if they will fit or not. I will be using it for furniture. Thanks

Posts: 2,002 Hanford California USA Gender: PM 3520A	Re: Router Tables Reply #3 - Aug 5^th, 2016 at 10:07am I have three Craftsmen, 2 Porter cables and 1 Milwaukie. The Milwaukie is a 3 HP variable speed, mounted in a Norm Abrams design router table. It is in an JessEm lift carriage. It can handle raised panel bits and anything else I can throw at it and not slow down. With dust collection added its a beast on a choke chain!

I have several routers, some have interchangeable inserts to give you 1/4", 8mm or 1/2" capacity. Typically the smaller routers and less expensive/quality routers have a 1/4" fixed size collet. For something mounted in a table it's common to have at least 2hp and ability to accept 1/2" bits.

If you're doing small pieces you can purchase a bench top variety from Bench Dog or something similar. Now, if you're looking for a premium type system then suggest you go to Woodpecker tools and review their Incra brand systems. It's a phenomenal set-up with tremendous precision but you need to use it a lot to make it worth the amount of money you'll spend.
